Trolling shorelines with medium to deep running plugs and spoons. Using a leader will help in landing a northern pike, due to their sharp teeth.

One of the best periods for northern pike is from early May thru June. When the water is cold in May, fish earlier in the morning.

In July and August, smaller pike stay in the shallows while larger pike move to weed beds next to deeper water. Casting spoons or trolling spinners along these weedlines can get northerns to strike.

September can bring on the larger fish to bite. The same techniques used on the deeper weedlines in mid-summer can be effective. Use larger rods and heavier line.
